Since 2004, ITSM Academy has been a leader in Service Management training and education. We are a Global Strategic Partner of AXELOS (the owners of ITIL) and are committed to do all we can to help our entire Alumnus make a smooth transition into this new digital frontier of ITIL 4. As such, we are uniquely prepared to guide organizations in their continuous improvement efforts, as we transition to ITIL 4 and adapt Service Management practices in support of DevOps and Agile.
“What’s in ITIL 4?"
ITIL 4 retains the best of ITIL v3/2011, and the core elements remain intact. The new content allows modern and emerging practices (Agile, Lean, DevOps) to be discussed alongside best practices. We have loads of resources on our ITIL 4 page, including blogs, downloadable posters, webinar recording and comprehensive white paper.
“After I complete ITIL 4 Foundation Training, what's next?
The advanced classes are: Create, Deliver and Support (CDS), Drive Stakeholder Value (DSV), Direct, Plan and Improve (DPI), High Velocity IT (HVIT) and Digital and IT Strategy (DITS). Our subject matter experts are happy to work with you to build a customized ITIL Training plan. Just use the chat feature below, or email us at [email protected]
As ITIL 4 provides a holistic end-to-end picture that integrates modern practices, such as DevOps, Agile and Lean IT, we have lots of resources - and classes - to help you learn all about these concepts.
“What does the ITIL 4 certification path look like?”
“Is there still an ITIL ‘library’?”
Yes. Although ITIL no longer stands for IT Infrastructure Library, there is still a library. The ITIL 4 core publications align with the ITIL 4 qualification scheme. For each Managing Professional or Strategic Leader course, there is a publication (e.g., Create, Deliver and Support, High-velocity IT, etc.). Each course covers only a subset of what is included in the publication and so they are worth the investment. Each Managing Professional and Strategic Leader course also introduces a subset of information about a select set of ITIL 4 practices. A major change in ITIL 4 is that the practices have been decoupled from set lifecycle phases (what is now the Service Value Chain). Instead, the ‘library’ also includes the ITIL 4 practices guides which are available as part of the My ITIL subscription service. Anyone who has completed an ITIL 4 exam is eligible for a free one-year subscription to My ITIL. This encourages mapping the practices to any of the value chain activities and the use and improvement of practices alone, or with other practices, through a flexible operating model.
“I am certified in ITIL v3, so what do I do?”
Of course, the time and money you’ve invested in your ITIL knowledge is still very meaningful and worthwhile. If you are currently ITIL v3 certified, AXELOS/PEOPLECERT have not built a Foundation bridge class... And it makes sense. In ITIL 4, the definition of a Service has changed, so it's imperative to understand the new way of looking at IT, throughout the ITIL 4 lens.
ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP, column on the left in the image below) targets IT practitioners working within technology and digital teams across businesses. The Managing Professional (MP) stream provides practical and technical knowledge about how to run successful IT enabled services, teams and workflows.
ITIL Strategic Leader (ITIL SL, column on the right in the image below) recognizes the value of ITIL, not just for IT operations, but for all digitally-enabled services. Becoming an ITIL SL demonstrates that the individual has clear understanding of how IT influences and directs business strategy. To obtain the designation ITIL MP or ITIL SL, the candidate must complete all modules in each stream, with ITIL Strategist being a universal module for both streams.
